Meet Your New Owner

For those of you that have been following along the last week. Tom gave the gift of Packer’s stock to one lucky fan earlier this week.

I am pleased to introduce the new proud owner of the Green Bay Packers.

“Alright! Well, my name is Karissa Burdick. I’m 20, will be 21 on January 3rd.

I was born in Baraboo, WI. I am a junior at UW Stevens Point studying psychology. I have been a Packer fan for as long as I can remember.

I have memories of sitting down in my grandpa’s basement, listening to him holler at the TV. The way I look at it is if you’re born in Wisconsin, being a Packer fan is in your blood. You’re just born with it. In fact, I love the Packers so much that during the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl last year, I made a promise that if my Packers won, I would go out and tattoo XLV on my body. A few weeks later, I had an “XLV” logo on my hip.

My favorite Packers are Clay Matthews, Charlie Yaw Peprah and obviously Tom Crabtree. I remember when he scored that touchdown against the Bucs. We were freaking out. “Crabtree just comes outta nowhere and scores a touchdown! Where did that come from!?” It was definitely awesome.

My favorite Packer memory is of their return to Lambeau after winning XLV. My friend Terra and I skipped our classes and road tripped to Green Bay. It was FREEZING but we didn’t care. To us it was worth it just to be a part of something so amazing. Terra is almost as much of a die hard Pack fan as I am. We will sit around my house, drink beer, and look up Youtube videos of the Packers.

When I first found out that the Packers would be selling stock again, I immediately called my dad and begged him to get me a share for my birthday. I knew it wasn’t going to happen, but I figured it was worth asking. So when I saw Tom tweet that he would be buying one fan a share, I figured I had nothing to lose. I could afford a few bucks for some Packer gear. I almost didn’t buy it because the shipping and handling was another 3 dollars (broke college student, had 20 bucks to my name) but I REALLY liked that sticker. Never in a million years thought I would win. I’ve never won anything in my life. And then to just be casually looking through Twitter and see my name…I was in shock. To be honest, the first thing I thought was “This is one of my $%^&# friends somehow playing a joke on me.”

I pretty much just started screaming/laughing and ran up to my roommates room to tell her. I was shaking for a solid half hour.

It is absolutely amazing that a guy that I watch and cheer for every Sunday takes the time to do things like this for his fans. He could have done something as simple as taken a picture, or signed an autograph for me and I would have been ecstatic. Shoot, we saw Clay Matthews simply walk out to his car and say “Sorry guys, gotta go” and we just about died! But Tom just went above and beyond, and it makes me truly proud to be a Packer fan.

I could ramble on and on about this but I’ve probably already written way too much. I’m including a few pictures. One of them is from when I was little, maybe 8 years old (I’m the one on the left with the helmet on). Another is of my XLV tattoo, and the last one is of me when we were on our way to Lambeau for their return. They had those signs lining the road and I wanted one, so I jumped out of the car and stole it. It’s now hanging in our dining room at my house in Point!”

I can’t think of a better way for this to end. Thanks Karissa, and enjoy your new position as owner of the Green Bay Packers!
